They are both among my favs (along with Strangerville and Get Together), but Snowy Escape is a little more game than storytelling set. Unlike IL it makes your sims work for their successes, they have to skill up in snowboarding, skiing and mountain climbing, and the mountain expedition is a timed event (relatively easy, but very atmospheric). You may like the lifestyles? I find them too restricting and turned them off, but you seem to be my opposite in playstyle, so you may enjoy them.
The only thing I do not enjoy about SE are the festivals, which are a big failure, tbh. IL gives the impression that their events are neighborhood get togethers, and as such they work. But SE tries to sell me their events as big festivals that lure tourists, but in reality there is very little to do if you do not play a painter or photographer.
