@To7m
I think after what you have outlined/experienced re that mod I might have a go with it if it makes enough of a difference, perhaps this mod stabilizes the swinging emotions so they stay longer in their current mood?
@Skobee
I remember when I first got 2 UC only ever having played the base game once years ago, and then trying to play the whole series at once not to mention wondering what the heck was going on for a long while when sims just went off and reacted to anything and everything around them. It has taken me a while to get used to it all and I still consider myself to be a complete novice but now I love the drama in 2 so yes more of that in 4 would be very welcome :)

I remember asking my very knowledgeable sims 2 friends a lot of questions about why there appeared to be so many differences between the older and newer series and they actually told me that when 2 first came out there were a lot of complaints because players loved 1 so much but after that issue it was the memory system and other aspects of the 2 game that could become corrupt if the player did not take care however I have been playing a little over a year now and have not experienced corruption yet but do take care of what I am doing in game that is known to cause corruption so that may have helped, to me it looks like future sims series systems have been diluted in various ways in an attempt to exclude game player problems but that appears to have taken away aspects of the gameplay that everyone loved and expected to be in all future Sims series.
I think 3 was great (open world) but after backtracking to play 2 I realised the emotion system in 3 was different to the way 2 had been created, also it did not take me long to realise I was going to need more of a gaming rig to play 3 and not the minimum specs as advertised and if I had known that in the beginning I could have saved myself a lot of heartache down the road-)
to be honest if it wasn't for the great players and tech minds on these forums helping me I might have given up sims games altogether but as Sims games are the only games I play then that wasn't an option either these games are my one addiction :)
I also notice that with 2 there were laptop standalone games made so players who did not have great PC specs could still play while others with better rigs could play the full series instead and I have often thought why could they not have continued with giving players that choice rather than trying to create a one series fits all mentality?
Then comes 4 and although I bought the game and all the packs as they came out (because I knew at some point I would want to play) I played a little each time a new pack came out and went back to playing 2&3 however now vampires are out I jumped into playing again immediately and really feel they did a great job with them and they are really fun to play however that does not take away the happy all the time problem but I think I have accepted lately that there are limits to this game itself and its probably not going to change very much so I try to just enjoy the aspects of the game I like and go back to playing another series when I want a different style of game play. I do not think there could ever be a perfect sims series for everybody but for me the emotional system of 2 with an open world of 3 and the graphics and extra animations from 4 would be as perfect for me I could think of at this time :)
