Kid is sick - parent has no new options.
I am annoyed that parents don't even acknowledge their child's sickness in this game. This game finds new ways to disappoint me every time I try to play.

Every illness has its own thing so it just depends on the illness they have. I believe they can cough. While playing the doctor career track in the game I've come across sims that cough due to the llama flu or something similar. So it's possible.
