Knitting career?

Can sims have a formal career selling the things they knit? I tried making them freelance but it still wants you to choose a career

  • Aha! Thank you very much @crocobaura ! I've not yet played having a business, this might be just the thing to get me try that! :)
  • Why am I not seeing self employed in the job option? Also can you sell canning goods? Not sure what purpose they serve. Are they just a snack?

Yes, you can sell canned stuff, I think from your inventory directly, or from the sales table. Not sure if they can be sold on plopsy. I think their value will increase based on quality of both crops and your stove/cooking/handiness.

Canned goods are either small meals or ingredients in regular receipts. For example, you can can mushrooms and use them as meat substitute. Some produce is smart to can in order to prevent them from going spoiled, and they make for great decor on a kitchen/pantry shelf. They are good to bring if hiking. Aaand - if you live in Henford-on-Bagley, they are good as neighbor gifts (thee is a special local tradition there).

Some of my sims run small canning businesses. One specialized on tomato sauce, another on Mayonaisse.

Large crops all need canning to preserve freshness. The bigger the produce, the more cans you make from 1 of them. Regular plant produce, and small crops produce 3 cans and it goes up in multiples from there.

Canning produce can increase ingredient quality, as the canned food is often Excellent, even from Normal produce, as long as your mood is good when canning. This in turn produces better quality meals.

Canning also makes produce go further and last longer. So if you have 1 Mushroom, and make Mushroom Conserves, you now have 3 Mushrooms for recipe purposes. Making Meat substitute and veggie alternatives is also much cheaper than buying/raising meat.

If you are cooking to raise your Cooking skill, then Canning is good practice, as you can reuse the canned things later and don't have to fill the fridge.

They are also a non-perishable food source if living off the grid, homeless gameplay or camping/exploring the jungle.

@DeadFishy the self-emloyed shouldn't be under "find a job". I believe there's a separate option to "register with ministry of labor."
