- SnowieSimmer10 years agoNew NoviceIn the Sims 3 there were some issues with spouses' names not changing sometimes too, but at least you could go to city hall and change it. I think a pop-up would be nice with just their last names being able to be changed (after all, getting married doesn't mean changing your entire identity), or maybe an interaction on the computer/phone to "file for name change" or something. I don't usually have a problem using cheats to change little things but sometimes full edit CAS glitches and sets everyone back to the beginning of their age so I'm always a bit wary to use full edit CAS.
- The cheat helped me a lot. Allowed me not only to change my sim's last name but also the relationships in the household. Although I am slightly disappointed there isn't an option for stepdaughter/stepmother/etc it allowed me to change the relationship from roommate to mother. Thanks a ton.

Um, at least in Germany A LOT of people keep their names after marrying. Perhaps this is not a bug but just going with modern times :D .
Germany has also caught up with the US and Sweden with a 50+% divorce rate, you know, the cost of being VERY progressive... lol."asphyxiateddoll;776362" wrote:
I moved two sims in together and when they got married, the female still has the same last name she did before they got married, and their child has her last name.
I have a work-around, but you must use
testingcheats true
then type
cas.fulleditmode
and rt-click on your sim. A choice menu will pop up. Choose Edit in CAS.
You'll be taken to the version of CAS we use when first creating a sim. From there you can click on her name and make her last name the same as her husband's. You can also do a lot of other stuff there, like change your sim completely, looks, traits, all of it.
I've only used it once for anything major, to get rid of my sim's blasted Loner trait because it was ruining his ability to make friends. Only found out later that miserable trait was the reason he was unflirty."Vlaxitov;13454874" wrote:

I'd hardly call the US progressive, let alone very progressive.
Barely left of Saudi Arabia, more like."Taranatar9;13455604" wrote:

Of course you wouldn't."Vlaxitov;13455626" wrote:

I have long suspected you were German. Am I correct? Just curious. :)- SnowieSimmer10 years agoNew NoviceHooray for EA listening to us! As of the patch released on the 26th, we can change our Sim's names just by choosing change appearance at the mirror or plan outfits at the dresser :)

Sims team: We could not implement last name change due to engine "limitations" and emotions.
You know Maxis has really dropped the ball in terms of development when joke responses like this come dangerously close to what the Gurus actually say when confronted with problems.
I guess changing a spouse's last name wasn't "tactile" or "intuitive" enough.- I think the game is telling us that nobody has to change who they are just because they got married and children clearly refers to whom gave birth to them. This is the most logical system ever which I personally think should be applied in real life. This will also save men from the idiotic syndrome of "I must continue my bloodline and my surname I must have a son (not a daughter)"
I know this is going out of "the sims" subject but, what is being done in real life, forcing women to change their surname somewhere in the middle of their life is like taking away who originally they are from them. But the society is so got used to it, it is so emposed in to our brains that it should be that way, even in a simple video game, people complain about not seeing the replica of that real world's nonsense traditions.
Some might disagree with me, but note that today, in some countries women don't take their husband's surname. There's no such a law. And in some countries, children get 2 surnames, both from their mom and dad. But in most of the so-called modern countries like the USA, women continue to be considered as personal properties whose ownership is transferred from their father to their husband and I'm so against it. Some may think it is just a surname on the paper but I think a woman's (and a man's) name and surname is their identity, it's who they are and marriage shouldn't change it.
To conclude, I like it how works in TS4.
