I think this is where we get into notions of gender essentialism, the idea that specific traits are tied to specific genders (eg women are the nurtures, men are warriors). Just personally I tend to see it more in terms of how someone presents, and someone who is masculine presenting might be more drawn to traditional masculine clothing styles, but they could also be drawn to non traditionally masculine pursuits. I think this is where EA is lacking, besides the lack of traditional masculine clothing styles in the game for trans guys or women who are masculine presenting (eg stone butch), what about those of us who want to play with the idea of gender essentialism and turn it on its head, have a male sim who presents as the blokiest bloke that ever bloked, but his hobby is baking and he loves holding tea parties; or in the case of more traditionally masculine hobbies, a female sim who is very feminine, but loves car racing and mechanics.
I agree with you on turning things on their head. I have a masculine man who has had a two babies with his husband. So yeah, I'm down with that.
