Interesting topic, as a straight, masculine man myself I do have to admit that I feel that I am considered as the minority in how Maxis are adding content and market this game...
1: How do you define masculine?
I define masculine as someone who has stronger masculine traits and follow masculine norms and are less interested in feminine traits and norms. These traits and norms are formed from influences throughout my life and my own personal feelings regarding the matter. Someone who is very masculine for me has certain interests that you often associate with boys. (girls, guns, cars, movies). They strive to look attractive by masculine ideals, and often have body hair and beards. They still care about their looks, but not in a fashionable way.
2: What does your masculine sim like to do?
They like to work out, they like to pursue goals, they are strong and dependent, they like action and woohoo. They like to look cool.
3: What career would your masculine sim like?
Careers where the majority of workers are men, careers like truck driver, work in construction, fireman, policeman, technicians, electricians, IT, or jobs related to cars.
4: What would your masculine sim like to wear?
They like to wear normal clothing with neutral colors. Older masculine sims like to wear formal clothing. If the sim is very muscular then they often wear some clothes to show off their muscles. This applies to both men and women.
5: Does your masculine sim have/want body hair?
Yes, they have body hair and I would like for Maxis to add it because body hair can add a lot to how you want your sim to look. But I mostly want beards and more masculine clothing. Guys can look really good in beards and masculine clothing like jeans and jackets and it's a shame that Maxis are not adding much of that.
This part is what I'm talking about. In this game, if we are shooting for all-inclusive, no one should feel like a minority.
As for your take, I love the ideas. Especially the trucker role! Imagine if the game actually had roles that took your sim away from home for extended periods of time. I wonder how that would work. Interesting thought.
Truckers get to see different places as they deliver goods. I once hit the road with a gay, drag-queen, trucker friend of mine and have to admit, it was fun going to New York and also we went to Indiana. So yeah, great experiences! So yeah, a career that took you from one world to another for your job would be fun.
He wasn't exactly the masculine type but still, truck driving is considered more masculine.
I don't mind feeling as a minority as in other games boys are often dominating the player base (although it feels like more girls are getting interested in video games that people often think only boys play). I wish they could add more masculine items though and also... I do feel that men who play the sims are often assumed to be gay... and it's kinda...weird how ones sexuality preference is being defined by a game that they like to play. I'm thankful that there are content creators out there that are not openly gay so people see that straight men play the sims as well.
As for truck driving, yeah, I recently wanted to create a lumberjack and have him do truck driving, cutting down trees etc. and there are barely any assets from Maxis that I can use for that.
good points! There are straight femmeboys out there, and gay 'lumberjacks' (a lot of those actually), so the world needs to get over trying to understand sexual orientation and gender expression as being connected. I think it stems from old mistaken ideas about sexual orientation that basically, every couple was a Feminine and a Masculine, whether it was same-sex or not, so people would privately try to guess which of a pair of chopsticks, was the fork. LOL
But it turns out, gender expression, and gender identity, and sexual orientation, are three entirely different things. Forgot to add bodily sex, which is a fourth aspect that isn't tied to the other three except in the popular imagination.
We have as many stereotypes about sexual orientation affecting behavior and interests, as we do gender and sex affecting it and they are true for some people, but as the saying goes, even a broken watch is right, twice a day.
I also wish there were things I like in the Sims: more sports, skeet shooting, but most everything else, is already in sims 3, so functional pool tables, working on cars, martial arts, motorcycles, riding horses are already covered in 3. Even skateboarding is covered in a small way in 3 in Into the future with the hoverboards, and we have snowboarding in 4. The basketball is pretty poor in 4, could use some blocks and moves other than taking turns shooting, but oh well.
Making an off-grid tiny home hunting cabin is one of my pleasures in sims3 because doing anything tiny in 3 is harder, but in 4, it still is irritating that the wood-fired cookstove can't also heat the place. I can fake it with a hidden thermostat. Putting both a fireplace and a cookstove in a small one-room cabin just makes no sense. Being able to hunt for game, that would be great! What a tie-in for all the rustic and off-grid and self-sufficiency stuff we already have!
Some updated dance would be nice. A little electro swing, some shuffle?
And why are hotwings not something we can have? an" EAPA" and wing night, watching the game or an action flick sounds pretty good.
