Cause I don't know about you but on my birthday I'm not handing out gifts to anyone else xD I kinda hope they thought of this and allow you to give gifts to either specific sims or categories of sims (like dads for Father's day etc.)
Based on the trailer I think there's one definite option for gift giving, which happens Sim-to-Sim, and which you probably have to initiate with your active Sim.
There's also a pile of presents we've seen, and they might have coded that to be like TS3 where you click on it and choose open gifts and a group of Sims will open gifts from it. But we haven't actually seen anyone doing that to my knowledge so maybe the pile is just for decor? We know that "give gifts" is a tradition but not sure if "open gifts" is, which I would count as a different activity.
