The ghost/grim and other features aren't invasive. I mainly got it for the build/buy and the world as well. The only thing I find slightly annoying is the pose macabre sims get in the relationship tab but I can overlook it. I haven't gone out of my way to do any of the souls journey for my sim but I found out she's already half-way done with it. Just from doing normal activities with her.
