Not that I'm aware of, speaking of unexpected events, I remembered playing as Connor Frio back in The Sims 3, he wanted Bebe Hart to come meet him after school but she can't because of her part time job, then all of a sudden she knocked Connor's door after work without me reinviting her, makes me smiled. i say "unexpected" because this is sim not a human but they act like a real human would do.
