Week 4, Part 1
While all of this happened, Tina was still at the park with Jin. But rain was setting in quickly and much as mother and son were attuned to the ocean, rain from above they tried to avoid same as the landlubbers.
"Let's go home, Jinny", Tina said, "and hear what your dads were up to over a nice cup of cocoa!"
Meanwhile in the museum, Gavin and Daniel searched the grounds for visitors who had been here before their arrival already, people who maybe had glimpsed some activity of the Royal Envoy's.
Adam: "The envoy? Yes, I saw her. She left for the nightclub."
Gavin: "The Blue Velvet? Just into the general direction or did she enter?"
Adam: "Went in."
Gavin then did something inadviseable: Call the envoy to check whether she was still there. There was no response.
Tina and Jin were just about to enter the car and drive home, when Jin insisted that someone was calling them on the phone. Tina took hers out, but the little boy shook his head.
"In da drash can!"
And indeed, from inside a garbage nearby can came the default "incoming call" sound.
Jin was excited! Tina less so, seeing that it was her having to sift through all the trash. This really didn't concern her, and if not for Jinny, she'd just walked away.
When Tina had retrieved the phone, it had already stopped ringing. The caller's number was displayed in bright numbers on the screen. Tina knew it well: It was Gavin's!
And the startscreen was a Veronaville landscape. Could this be...?
Tina: "Wow! Can you imagine? This phone belonged to the Royal Envoy."
Jin: "Oh! Oh, mom! Maybe she has her MASTERPLAN on there!"
Tina: "Nah. Nobody would be so careless." *browses* "Strike me with lightning! There's a file here labeled "My retirement masterplan"! Password protected, too."
Jin: "You knew it! You said so today! That she's evil!"
Tina: "Maybe? Someone who throws away their still active phone to cover their tracks and leaves incriminating material not exactly accessable, but visible, isn't a professional criminal, though. Looks like this heist was a spur of the moment decision and someone got cold feet."
Tina called Daniel and Gavin (with her own phone) to tell them about her discovery.
Maybe it was a bad decision, but instead of chasing the Royal Envoy to the nightclub immediately, the trio decided to meet at their apartment first.
Business at the Blue Velvet had barely even started for today, and the envoy would probably want to celebrate her victory. And if she left, well, she lived at the embassy, where Thiago's security would detain her on sight.
Daniel (who had gotten very tired by now) got a strong coffee while Tina knocked at the door of Susan, a friend of hers who worked as a freelance programmer. She gifted Suesan a rare cowberry in exchange for her help with the files.
Turned out the password was a string of numbers that Daniel knew very well: The code from Princess Cordelia's figurine!
Gavin: "Haha! She sure loves to boast, ey? But soon we'll hear who has the last laugh in this!"
Tina: "So, from what I see here, the treasures you got tasked to investigate are real: The cursed ring, five keys, a saddle, some garments and even a bookcase. The Veronaville nobility really came here to find them, ideally without having to pay the current owners, instead granting them titles and favours."
Daniel: "The WHAT ring? Is that the one Thiago allowed us to keep so "generously"?"
Tina: "Here's a picture - yes, that's the one. Who'd thought that an archduke believes in curses, haha! Anyway, the rest of the files are mostly checklists of treasures and stuff the envoy wants to buy. There's even blueprints for her future mansion."
Some of the treasures the investigators had found, but the vast majority of them the traitorous envoy had claimed. On to the nightclub it was, to stop her once and for all! (Meanwhile Susan agreed to babysit Jin.)

It was sweet that Jin was the one who heard the sound of the phone in the trash can ❤️He looks very cute as he watches Tina going through the rubbish! The Royal Envoy doesn’t really cover her tracks too well, and leaves evidence quite openly! The exchange of the cowberry seed was a good trade to get information for the password protected file. They are not so happy with having the ring now they have learnt the ring was cursed 🙁
