Magic - Sages

Why is there no Sage for the Alchemy magic? I try to research the lore, but only find info on the other 3 magics.

Is Alchemy Magic that different? Or is it the base of it all?
  • Alchemy is referring to the potions. You can ask all 3 sages for potion recipes. Also you can experiment at a cauldron to learn potions and you can buy recipe books at the shop in the magic realm.

I always thought that was an oversight on their part. It's a shame there's not a sage for alchemy, but I guess the number 3 is considered more magical.

Additional question: The bloodline seems nifty. I didn't find info on how it might develop, will the child of a "weak bloodline" trait parent always get the "Strong bloodline" trait, or can the child risk not getting any bloodline trait at all? Must both parents have a bloodline trait for the child to get it? And - say there are 3 siblings, both parents with "Strong bloodline", could the 3 kids get traits "Weak", "Strong", "Ancient" or nothing at all? Would love to know how random this thing is... :)

I'm not sure how the probability works with bloodlines. I tend to see it err on the weaker side, so for instance: ancient+strong=strong, strong+no bloodline=weak. I usually see this in human sims, which I don't get. It seems pointless. I feel like genetics should take over and result in an occult sim. In my current game there is a human sim with the ancient bloodline. I feel like he should have been a spellcaster if his bloodline is that strong.

I also witnessed the werewolf trait skip a generation, which I didn't think was possible since I've never seen it with any other occult. I'm wondering if it was just a glitch or if anyone else has seen that happen?

From what I read, I now see the bloodline as the occult lifeform, while Spellcaster is more like a career. I think it's good that a sim even born with Ancient bloodline can ignore the Spellcaster option. But knowing you are Ancient will probably make you reconsider later in life, depending on traditional mindset or not. Just got this pack and I don 't intend playing a lot with magic, but I like it to be there in the background slightly affecting some families as bloodlines :)

Thanks. I guess the info on the sims.fandom site confused me, they worded it like this: "There are four magic styles that spellcasters can learn and are: Practical, Mischief, Untamed, and Alchemy. They are not mutually exclusive, so spellcasters can learn more than one style at once." So, I read it as there are 4 equal branches/schools.

  • The more I read, the more questions...

There are some premades, including the Charm family. The elderly Minerva Charm is said to have a "Strong bloodline". I thought that she would then pass on the "Ancient bloodline" to her children, but both Darrel and Gemma have only the "Strong bloodline". I don't know who their father(s) are, but even if he had no bloodline at all, they should still be given their bloodline trait from Minerva, right? And - if Minerva was not an active Spellcaster at the time, then children should get a poorer trait, which would be "Weak bloodline"...

So, I don't get the logics, unless Minerva isn't the real mother to these two at all? Maybe she adopted them as she married their father(s)? I even suspect them to have different fathers, as Minerva's hair looks blond, Darrel's is brown, and Gemma's is black. Dyeing hair happens, though... (found another picture of her where the hair is grey and green, so genetics is no longer an issue...)

I always thought it would be cooler if the potions weren’t part of being a spellcaster and just something any sim could do. The pack is very limited if you don’t pick to be the spellcaster and this could have helped.

Agree to that. I love the idea of a bloodline though, wish my nobility had the same, lol.
