Maintaining a family tree

I'm looking for a way to maintain my sims family trees without having to keep a ton of ghosts around. (I'm remaking ts2 trees and don't want their ancestors still out interacting just kept in the tree). I don't want ghosts to not be culled I just don't want the family trees severed.
Does keeping urns help, releasing them yo the netherworld?

  • My game culls ghosts all the time (no mods), and they stay in the tree. The only time a Sim comes up with a blank head is when I actually delete the Sim in CAS or Manage Households. Possibly a mod problem? Or is your save older than the patch? If your save is older than the patch, it might be that it's only fixed in new saves. I started playing legacies about a year and a half ago, and I've never had this issue - when did the patch come out?

I refrain from culling the dead sims as to not messing up my family tree in the game, you could use mods if you are not that antimods player to prevent ghost visiting others lot.

I didn't use mods at the time of posting this but have been using mcc since on a fresh save to stop them from disappearing... problem is my thing is like 130 families each with deceased ancestors. Before I had the ancestors killed off through old age there was 197 "played households" so if I don't allow culling, I can't then populate the next gen cause 200 is recommended.

I've had this issue both in modded and modfree play with new saves. I didn't use mccommand until this happened 3 times in separate recreations of this save file. So far I've tried natural death (aging in just playing other families), then making them die actively on screen so I always get a tombstone then I tried releasing all the spirits right away. I still get holes in the tree.
  • I don't have this issue. I've been using the noculling mod until said patch, afterwards I took it out and am playing without it since. No MCC. I'm playing rotational with 18 households that are on Generation 5 now and it never happend to me.
I only heard of it from people who were playing with MCC, though I won't say it's an MCC problem as I cannot know.

When did you last test this with a modfree play with new saves, @CaityTrina? Was it before or after said patch that fixed the send to netherworlds and culling?
