Oh no, I totally get what you're saying. And to be honest, I personally probably wouldn't actually stoop to their level. I'm just stating that part of me is honestly tempted.
And while I'm sure it happens on realistic packs too, it happens twice, or thrice, or ten times as much on occult packs, and it's the realistic players who tend to make a big deal of getting more occult packs. I can't even count the number of times I've seen these so called realistic players complaining about Paranormal Stuff and I fear they're going to make devs nerf the ghosts or turn them down drastically as well, just like they did with practically every other occult.
It also makes me mad, how much the devs cater to the realistic players and how occult players always get put on the side burner. I get that it's a "life simulation" game or whatever, but occult lifestates are still a life you can simulate. Just because they're a vampire or spellcaster should make no difference.
And I'm not just talking about the fact that occult players have only 2 (now 3) packs soley dedicated to them compared to the 30 something for realistic players, but that the devs are willing to punish occult players to coddle the realistic players by nerfing content we actually want or banishing spellcasters to the magic realm.
Well, thanks for clarifying what you mean. I do understand your concern and frustration. I get annoyed when people say about Island Living or Snowy Escape "I didn't want this". Those 2 packs I really enjoy and I was super excited for Snowy Escape cause I have always wanted a snow themed pack and there hadn't been one since Sims 1. So when it was announced I signed into youtube for the first time and liked and commented on it to let the devs know I really like this one. My concern is if they make a Sims 5 they may not put these in it because of those loudly complaining that they personally didn't want those packs. I assume that your concerns about occults in a potential Sims 5 would be similiar.
I don't know myself exactly how many comments like those were for Snowy Escape compared to Paranormal Stuff. I haven't seen the trailer for Paranormal Stuff since I'm not into that particular theme so I haven't seen the comments, but the few I saw on Facebook were positive and people expressing their excitement for the pack. I'm not saying those are the only responses, I've seen very little compared to what there is. I do hope they don't nerf those features, for those that do like them.
I think this is a case of the squeaky wheel. The devs will pander to the loudest voice. In this case those complaining about the main theme of Vampires, Realm of Magic, and now Paranormal Stuff. The skin tone update is catered to the loudest voice, nothing was done till well known youtubers spoke up, and even then it was only because of those riots happening in America. I saw gamechangers comment about the lack of skintones, hair colour and eye colour, but once those riots started they suddenly shut up about hair and eye colours and talked about only skintones. As a result we got more skin tones, but no new hair or eye colours despite the fact that many people can't create a Sim with anything remotely close to their natural hair colour.
I do think it's just ridiculous to complain about a pack just cause you don't want it. These people don't seem to realise that other people have different interests to their own. It causes many problems for those who do want it, especially if the devs nurf that feature. They should ignore those complaints especially because those who don't want vampires or magic can simply not buy those packs.
I myself are not into paranormal, vampires, werewolves, or zombies, but I do like mermaids, aliens, and plantsims. I'm a little mixed when it comes to magic. I have no interest in witches or having regular Sims cast spells and things, but I do like magical creatures like fairies and genies and would really like a pack where they get that advanced power skill tree. I know I wouldn't want them nerfed after release just because someone wanted the pack for the nice flowery outfits and gardens and complained about the magical creatures in it. If a pack like this came out I want to see fairies roaming around in the main worlds and to easily come across a genie lamp. I wouldn't want it to be super difficult to get the genie to come out of the lamp just because someone likes the lamp, but doesn't want the genie. I'm well aware there are a lot of occults not in Sims 4 and if they announce a pack with one I'm not interested in, I just don't buy the pack. I understand that others are excited for it and want to play as these occults. I don't think anything should be nerfed just because someone who never liked that main feature complained about it being in the pack where that very feature is written in the title.
Granted most of the complaining is happening on Twitter, and not as much on Youtube or Facebook. But the thing is, most occult players expressing their disappointment tends to be along the lines of "Winter sports? I was hoping for werewolves." or "Meh. This doesn't really interest me. Guess I'll be skipping this pack." Whereas the 100% realism players are the ones who tend to flip a wig and throw a temper tantrum whenever something occult is even mentioned.
They're the ones who are all "MORE occults. What about xyz???" or "We have ENOUGH occults. We want xyz." and those are the really tame examples. Most of them tend to go off on a rampage. One person on here literally followed their annoyance up with "was Realm of Magic not enough nonsense?" And if I'm being honest that's what really set me off.
We only have 2 TRUE occults (I love the mermaids don't get me wrong, but I wish there was a lot more to them) and this Witch with a Capital B is mad that we're getting a STUFF pack with ghosts without even seeing the trailer yet. (since this was before it was even released)
If more of the realism players were more like you and just didn't buy the pack (which they're not being forced to buy anyway) and didn't try to get our occults nerfed, I wouldn't have this issue. But unforuntely, most of them seem to want all occults removed or nerfed to practically non existence because they're "ruining" their game knowing full well that those occults would be present when they bought the pack and cry that we don't need any more occults even though there are people who do want them.
I mean I sincerely hope that we do get a generations pack for family players (despite the fact I have no interest in it, since I wouldn't get much use out of it anyway. I only got Parenthood for the values system and so I could cheat the "reward" traits on my Sims) but I know they wouldn't feel the same happiness if/when I get say, my Superheroes pack, or we get werewolves, or fairies. They're just going to cry that we got more unrealistic gameplay and find something else to whine about not getting instead. And that's what's making it so hard for me to "be the better person."
Again I'm not actually going to go out and bully the devs into nerfing some big realistic thing or act like the entitled realistic players. But if I did in theory want to stoop to their level, I'd only reply to occult haters and write my comment in a manner that shows that I'm just trying to be petty. Heck, I'd probably include a disclaimer too.
And while you make a good point about the louder voices and gamechangers, I also feel that's also part of the problem. None of the Gamechangers (or at least the ones I know of) are big occult fans. The closest we have is Plumbella with Bonehilda which actually worked, but otherwise we don't have those big names advocating for more occult play, so same as always: occult players are going to suffer while realistic gameplay continues to be catered to.
I do thank you for understanding my concern though. I wish more realistic players thought the way that you did. But as much as I want werewolves, fairies and even genies (so yes, we're on the same page with them) I am absolutely afraid that those same "realistic" players (anti-occults would be a better name if I'm being honest) are going to bully the devs into neutering our werewolves and banish our fairies to their own world.
