Makeovers
Do you ever give a townie or a premade sim a makeover??? I've changed their hair and changed their clothes. They are always happy with the results.

I only give makeovers to the ones I intend to play or that are friends with my played sims. You could say my sims have to "earn" their makeovers by catching my interest.
Of a few premades (Goth, Caliente, Amber, Renegades) I keep library copies that I swap out for the originals at the start of a new game to save time.
