Master Bedroom balconies

How do you decorate a balcony that is attached to a master bedroom? I'm not sure if I'm feeling uninspired or there really isn't much in the Build/Buy catalog for this. All I have now is a seating area but have more space. It would be great to put items on there a sim would use so they actually go out on the balcony. I thought of a Chess table but that is just too blah.

  • Depends on the size, usually for smaller ones I'd use a chess table, yoga mat or an easel, larger ones a sized down hot tub
  • I normally don't decorate balconies much besides adding a potted plant, but if I did, I'd base it on the sims' interests/hobby. If enough room I might add something for skill building that I don't want the entire household to access. A rocking chair for relaxing or knitting, gym or wellness equipment, an outdoor loveseat if there is a certain sunset view. Then I'd lock the balcony door, if not the bedroom door.
  • I put in a bench or some sort of outdoor furniture (like an item from the Perfect Patio SP) then I have a bookcase near the door leading to the balcony so hopefully Sims will go outside to read. With NK, I'll use a rocking chair out there; Sims are quite drawn to those, then in inclement weather seasons (depending on the world) I'll move the chair inside. (I know some CC makers have done rocking chairs that don't look so "country" that work for more modern builds, but I'm trying to resist CC till I know the game won't get more updates.)

Like others I also put hobby/skill items like easels, workbenches, yoga mats/meditation stools, and such on the balcony, especially if my adult Sims will be the only one using them (if they're childless or their kids are too young to use the items themselves). Decor like plants also help to fill out the space.

I will usually have a roof (preferably glass for those nice sunny days) over the space, and a heater so sims can stay there when its cold. I of course put seating, lights and plants. Depending on the size, I'll place a small bookshelf or just a couple books acting as a shelf. Easel, yogamat, stereo/wallspeaker. Did I mention plants? I'll place as many as possible, as space permits.

From a house I'm working on:

Rest of the house is empty, I only finished this little corner of it a few months ago. :D

I usually make those spaces large if I know they will be used. For smaller balconies (actual balconies) I'll place a bench and a couple plants.

Why would your sim want to sleep outside? Do they get whims for that?

I have a household where the mum does yoga on the balcony. They live in Oasis Springs and she is usually out there at sunset enjoying the beauty while she practices.

sleeping outdoors even in real life can actually be really awesome if weather is right

but i would give double bed cause single is bit sad ;)
  • It depends on the size of the balcony. I usually build large ones on fancier and expensive houses for an outdoor party. Most of the time I usually put an easel, chess table, work bench, yoga matt or a bonzai tree out there.
