True, and it’s a very difficult one to balance, especially with an ever growing player base.
Plus where does it stop? It’s a life simulator after all. I keep whining about bodyhair because in my opinion male Sims kinda look like a joke without it. That doesn’t mean my request is more valid than that of someone who wants specific pronouns in game, or a wheelchair or a church.
I believe one of the main reasons this call for self- representation is so profound, is because the game is graphically more advanced than its predecessors.
The game itself almost encourages the player to create a Sim Self simply because most of the tools to do that actually exist in TS4. CAS is way more complex than in previous iterations and it’s now easier (and more fun?) than ever to create a sim that resembles us. We’re able to mold our Sims into something quite unique and when we’re offered almost ALL of the tools to create a Sim Self, we begin to ask for assets that will help us finally build a complete digital version of ourselves: More Skintones. Presets. Pronouns. Natural hair colours. Bodyhair. Piercings. Skin conditions. Heightsliders. etc.
The moment CAS gives us all we want, this wish for complete self-representation will feed into gameplay: Disabilities, religion and many other aspects that mimic our own way of life.
The more we’re encouraged to create ourselves, the more we want to see ourselves in this game.*
*speaking in general terms here. I don’t play my Simself. He’s a joke.
