@CAPTAIN_NXR7 I understand what you're saying, but if we're asking them to stop the focus on representation, that isn't going the fix the rest of the game, is it? Won't they just continue to add visuals instead of gameplay?
I keep seeing the same argument in this thread. There's too much focus on representation, because there's too little focus on representation. If you want wheelchairs instead of unisex items, then just say that. But if that's what you want, you're not against representation.
If you don't want any of it, then just say you don't want any of it. Coming up with examples of how we shouldn't have curly hair or pride flags because we don't have a height slider or rosaries, that seems kind of a moot point to make if you want them to shift the focus away from representation.
Also, all the current representation updates being done are about adding and fixing things for POC. Nothing for LGBTQ+ has been added to the game since they started with the skin tones. When being asked about pronouns, they're holding off the boat, saying, "we heard you want them, here are the reasons you don't have them". If representation is the issue, then talking about the POC updates is much more relevant, yet nobody seems to have a problem with that.
If all the beef is with the LGBTQ+ assets and none of it is with any of the other groups being represented, then I wouldn't be surprised if the folks at Maxis are going to facepalm a bit about that. Either you want more representation, or you want less of it, but let's not single out one group because they got it before someone else did.
@CAPTAIN_NXR7 The pride assets are all lifeless objects, by the way. They don't add any buffs/gameplay.
It's really quite simple. If the name of the game is about representation is that only reserved for people who happen to be LGBTQ or is Maxis going to create for all the other type peoples of the world of any clique, group, tribe, identity, belief, attributes etc.?
Because LGBTQ gender patch and updates/content came with gameplay didn't it? A gender patch isn't just about how a Sim looks. It allows Sims to marry other than heterosexual Sims (which might have been in this base already, I can't remember) it came with biological males able to have babies, it came with other things that in turn actually implements gameplay. I would agree that most representation in this game is nothing more than how someone looks on the outside rather than on the inside, and mostly fluff since there are very few animations and or even text or buffs to go along with Simself of any type Sim.
But if the game is about Simself gameplay it has failed because no, it doesn't represent every type of person on this earth. Does it? So, as I said it's really quite simple, if it's not about everybody, regardless of group or clique or cult or belief and or practices etc, or ability or non ability then shouldn't it be no more important than any other type of gameplay and stop being marketed that it is possible to play Simself, when no it's not that broad to represent all people all over the world. Or even someone next door or in our own families.
It shouldn't get any more attention than say a deviant player or linear player, or a story teller, or a builder etc. since no it's not actually true. ( I brought up the disabled or those who practice a faith to prove the point)
As far as patches and updates, I also said articles and interviews which I assume you have missed many, which spoke about representation and it's importance and unfortunately very little about any other type person.
No one has to facepalm anything, it either lives up to the hype or it is just as lacking as any other type gameplay in TS4. Yes, it takes years, but one group gets a yearly update while others see nothing. There is the indifference to those who can't play Simself, and still the game is marketed to play Simself...and as I said does that mean only for one group of community or are they going to expand Simself to include the world? Because if they can't maybe it's time to drop the tag line and all the special updates for only those it seems to be about in the heart of fairness and honesty.
