Maybe the "new Sims experience" could be optional multiplayer a la Stardew Valley.

Not interested in online or stardew Valley. I play the sims and I want my creativity back - can't have that online. I want neighborhood editing and town editing - not just on lots like we always had in Sims 1,2, and 3 (this game is why we cannot edit off lot as it is)- they don't even allow making your own houses and sims in Sims online - so absolutely not. If I wanted online play I'd not have hated Sims Online or porting to others games in showtime. I don't like real time game play or online use of having to have real money to play and constant monthly access payments on top of everything else. I like to pay for actual packs - no packs in online. But kids do love it. If you like playing with all the teen they will chat away - as online is not needed in a game with no quests and does not accept you having any help from people you are online with. It is limited simming in real time with chat -.If I want to chat - I can do that already through Origin chat - no point and very annoying. Been there - done that. Chatting is good in forums - not so good online unless you are dating or in school and have things in common, for a game without quests to be met and who wants quests in the Sims series in normal neighborhoods?
