SPOILER ALERT

I've just played through Strangerville and boy..... What a big fat disappointment.

The constant going back and forth to progress the story. The lack of any background to the whole thing. And the lack of any thought to the aftermath of the story. Cool so my sim is a hero and this has absolutely no impact on anything ever? Cool so there's a huge giant flower that's controlling everyone... How?! Why is it there?! Where is it from?! What does it want?!

I could not be more disappointed if I tried. Another pack that just feels like the team were under tight deadlines, the storyboards were not properly thought through and they just needed a cash cow.

This had real potential. The reality was a real disappointment.

  • I completely ignored the gameplay after buying everything at the kiosk and planting bugs on everyone. I'm not into quests on the whole but really enjoyed building there and using the new objects in all my other worlds.

    It sounded more like a paid update and a way of apologizing for things they forgot to add into "Get To Work". I might get it I might not. I like a good mystery.
  • I look at it as a stealthy way of getting more grunge and subsistence level objects in. They had all the concept stuff ready and most didn't go for them and they didn't want them to go to waste! The majority went with Laundry!

    That's my conspiracy theory anyway. :D >:)

    I love the new stuff and am using it in all my worlds.
  • I didn't buy nor allow anyone to gift it to me. I had many disagreements with others who bought a pack totally devoted to Vampires then wanted vampires removed from their games. Unlike others I did my complaining beforehand, no need to spend money on something I knew I wasn't going to like., and demand or complain later it should have been different or remove it or toggle it off or whatever. No money means No, I don't like it. Money spent means yes, make more of it (even if you didn't like it).
  • @Cinebar I agree, although I think it's possible that people can have an idea about what the pack is going to be and if they're going to like it, and then the experience can be different. I can understand if people thought they were going to like the pack, and then was disappointed, especially if they didn't watch reviews or such, because they didn't want spoilers. Just saying.

    Yes, sometimes, however, this pack had a trailer, that most watched who were waiting on something new. The devs stated if you replay it, it will always be the same, with very little differences. The walkthrough with Sim Supply and the guru (even before release) told just about everything it was about.

    Yes, but trailers are not a very honest representation of what the pack actually is - it's a sales tool. The guru stream didn't go into spoilers, and it definitely didn't show everything. I can imagine thinking it's an amazing pack if you go only on those things. If people don't want spoilers, I don't see them watching a walkthrough either. It's easy for me to see what the pack is going to be, because I can decode the language and expectations. Not everyone watches and takes in information critically like that. I understand if people want to feel positive, because they want to have a positive experience, and they like the game and want to like the pack. Ofcourse a lot of people actually do like the pack, but I can definitely imagine people buying it kind of not wanting to see it for what it is beforehand - and then getting disappointed. It happens all the time when we buy something.
