On the other hand it is realistic that someone who can play piano, can't automatically play violin. Sims 4 clearly has chosen for differentiation and a large amount of separate skills. To be consistent with this choice it makes sense for mixology and nectar making to be their own thing. I know people in real life who make their own wine and other people who mix drinks at parties. These are two completely different skills.
I agree that you can't expect a pianist to be able to play a violin as well (that's the same argument I always brings up when someone suggests I should be a journalist because I write novels - just because it's both writing, doesn't mean it's the same), but you can expect a pianist to be reasonably good at playing a pipe organ, and vice versa. They're basically the same instrument, they just sound different and the organ has a little something extra down below. Yet in TS4, they're two completely different skills, while electrical engineering and woodworking are lumped together under Handiness, making furniture and candles is somehow the same thing (Fabrication), and don't even get me started on Logic covering various natural sciences as well as chess. It doesn't always make sense.
From a logical, realistic perspective, I recognise Mixing, Juice Fizzing and Nectar Making as different skills. From a gameplay perspective, however, they might as well be one and the same. Mixing is arguably the most boring and unrewarding of the bunch, because drinks you make at the bar cost more than food, but give your sims less in terms of need fulfilment. Juice fizzing and nectar making may be more interesting activities with more elaborate concepts behind them, but the result is ultimately the same. And I have commented on that before, so no, @Simmerville, you're definitely not the only one questioning the point of yet another drink making skill.
