Little talked about trick with the money tree;
1. Wait until the tree is fully grown and bares fruit.
2. Instead of picking the fruit, go into build mode and put the tree in your build inventory.
3. You now have the tree plus each of the seeds to plant more trees (or use to complete your gardening collection).
Note regarding the gardening collection: it's weird, simply purchasing the seed from the trait rewards gives you a seed, but it doesn't count on your collection list (thankfully, it doesn't count as a part of the official gardening collection, but it is on the list). You need to either follow the steps above to get a seed that way or do what others in this thread said and splice the money tree with another plant to cause that plant to grow money fruit.
The money tree does reward you with an obscene amount of money. It's great if you want to live in Selvadorada (Jungle Adventure) or Granite Falls (Outdoor Retreat), because you could bring a seed with you, plant it on the property you're renting, and once it's baring fruit you'll never have to worry about bills again. Of course, you will need enough to survive the time until the tree starts paying off, but that's really not much. Even with seasons it's no big deal, because the tree is year-round (bares fruit in all seasons). I'm not completely sure if you end your vacation and come back the tree will still be there...I think it might either still be there or will be placed in your build inventory. Either way, you'll still have it available for when you return. So, you want more time to scavenge for artifacts? The tree gives you all the time you need.
