I agree with what you're saying. As for the metal I could put up with it on a shed or garage but not a house. However it would suit the brush type roofing as thatched rooves generally don't have the eaves lined.
Like you I'm extremely disappointed with some of the shortcuts implemented and lack of attention to detail in this game. I'm forever having to compromise because the colours/sizes I want to use aren't in the style I want or because of issues similar to the new roof problem.
I've given up that this game will ever be anything like the level of fun I use to have with the first 3 in the series. :(
