My sims are all cold!

My sims are all cold when they're inside the house. Is this just a feature or am I doing something wrong? I have checked all of my roofs, I have checked for gaps in the walls or foundations, as far as I can see, the house is sealed!

I know there have probably been loads of questions about this but I don't want to find a new house, I need to know what I'm doing wrong!

  • That does sound like a glitch of some kind. I have several two story homes in my saves and I have never had any Sims dress in cold weather clothing before going downstairs. I have a mod that forces my Sims to change into regular clothing after coming in out of the cold. It's quite handy. But to address your problem, have you tried to delete your caches then repair your game yet? Deleting the localthumbcache then repairing your game after installing new packs, updates or patches is very important. Allowing that thumbcache to grow each time you play and not deleting it afterward, will cause glitches in your game. The repair option that Origin implemented for Sims4 was the best thing they ever did for the game. It has helped me out a lot over the years.
  • When it is freezing cold, your sims can be cold inside your house.
  • It is a bug I think, my sim's wife died overheating in a cold temperature inside the house, and after she took a shower! I also happen to witnessed sim frozen in front of her apartment after I visited her.
  • Most of my playing sims have all the seasons traits, so hot/cold and deaths etc etc don't effect me
  • I was wondering if the thermostat actually did anything. Now I know it does, thank you everyone.

That would be fine, if it worked. I see all the time when I have the heat on in winter indoors, I'll still get "Chilled" and "Central Heat" at the same time. Also, every two story home I create, my sims ALWAYS change into cold weather clothes before going downstairs with the heat on.

I have noticed that if you get a REALLY cold day, at least in an apartment, your Sims will usually switch to Cold Weather outfits indoors anyway. Basically the thermostat even on Max can't cope with freezing blizzards (when it gets to cold your Sim's windows are actually iced over and non-transparent this happens).

Same if it's fully red and a fire symbol on the thermometer. Your sims will get warm despite having the thermostat set to cold.

Yes. I was told once by an obnoxious repairman, that I should have realized there was a problem with the AC unit by the high cost of running it. I just gave him a cold stare (narrowed eyes) and said that this was my first EVER experience with an AC. I used to live on the coast and an AC wasn't needed. That shut him up. But, yeah. If the unit is new and or in good working order the cost of running it only jumps if you have it set too low. As in 68-72, when you should set it above 74.
  • Yeah, i found my sims freezing to death in their homes several times when switching to them from another family. My guess is that they were jogging in the snow while i wasn't controlling them.
  • Thermostats (just be aware it raises the bills), fireplaces and warm outfits all help. If you have enough points, you can get a trait where they love the cold and won't freeze to death. I had a sim die from freezing to death on my lot once when my sim threw a dinner party.

My sims get a happy moodlit when near a fireplace, but their toddler needs help with switching clothing when inside the house. He won't die, but he would often be sad because it is cold out. Now that they are making a lot of money from their jobs and selling books, they probably can turn on the thermostat without worrying too much.

They live in a world that came with Cats and Dogs and winter outside, so lots of snow and rain.
