My Sim had to write songs, not lyrics. Then he licenses them one at a time. So far, he's been getting nominated every time he licenses a song, but he's a Global Superstar, too. He's been on quite a spree, that I had to restart, unfortunately. Lost the save where he was up for his 20th Best Song. Ho-hum. That was quite a ride. According to Carl's Guide, there is a 60% chance of the played Sim to win.
