New Computer Recs?

I can't tell you much about computers, but my son told me when I was buying not to get a dell. They had one built from Dell and it was junk. They ended up selling it almost immediately as it didn't work for them, and 6 months later a friend who had bought it said the hard drive died. They had another Dell computer and that I don't remember why, but they were not happy with that either. My son says to avoid Dells.
