I also use a technique where I place a duplicate surface in front of the one I’m trying to clutter, but slightly moved to the side (so that its slots are lined up with the empty spaces on the surface I’m trying to decorate). So you need MOO to nudge the second surface over a bit. Then I place my objects onto the second surface then move them onto the first surface, again with MOO. Then delete the duplicate surface.
