NPC or no NPC?

Does anyone else sort of wish certain "NPCs" would stay NPCs? While it is nice to be able to interact with all Sims without limitations, I find it a bit annoying when what should be a singular character shows up twice or even more because of some strange circumstance or you decided to add the Sim to your Sim family. There should be one Grim Reaper. If any others show up they should be Grimterns. There should be one Night Wraith, rather than a new one popping up each time it visits. There should be one Father Winter and that is Clement Frost. There shouldn't be townies running around as Bonehilda. A strange one to bring up would be the Tragic Clown. It admittedly bothers me that some random townie shows up as the Tragic Clown. It should just be Sonny, the bothersome and somewhat creepy clown that is obviously supernatural in some way. (About the only good thing about the random townie spawning is that you can have multiple unique kills of them, but for a lot of those kills you have to add them to your family. In note of that, why can't we set fire to the clown painting and see [him] suddenly burst into flames?)

Maybe it is just me. I know there are a lot of players who like to marry their Sims to some of these characters or have them added to their families despite some other Sim will spawn and take their place in terms of roles. Still, though... once they become a playable Sim their role is gone and in the end they are basically a normal Sim.

Wait… There’s more than one Father Christmas??? My life is a lie!

  • I'd really prefer if all NPC functioned more like Greg

= Always same sim, no other sims spawning with the role, can be summoned via specific item/interaction, can be added to family via cheats if wanted and cheat removing them from family puts them right back in their role, unique interactions and appropriate reactions from sims when they see sim. If the sim is deleted/dies no new sim spawns.

Ah... good to know I'm not the only one, then. While I am guessing the iconic characters for certain roles have a sort of townie setting to allow more immersive interaction capabilities, it has been shown this is still possible with characters like Greg. With how the system works, however, the characters who you expect to remain NPC status can either wind up with a doppelganger (like Grim or the Night Wraith) due to the game summoning a random for the role and suddenly you have no idea who the "real one" is.

I believe this happened with the Crumplebottoms as well, but this was because they are set in as a more traditional NPC status. With them, I think if you have unique settings regarding aging and dying or they somehow lost their status because of neighborhood stories, a "new one" will spawn to take their place.

Bonehilda, Patchy, the Tragic Clown, the Flower Bunny... they seem to spawn more along the lines of how job related randoms do, so they really are just randoms running around in costumes. So if any of them die or ends up in a townie household, a new random comes along wearing the costume.

Father Winter is a bit of an interesting one since he always first spawns in as Clement Frost, but if he dies or becomes a townie, a new Father Winter will come along, wearing the suit and having a beard, but he is a completely different guy who can sometimes have completely different looks - like brown skin with blonde hair...

All in all, I really wish these characters were coded to be real NPCs. The same one is always generated with set appearance, set traits, set name to given role and the like...
