Your markup prices don't have an affect on the number of customers that arrive... that's determined by your curb appeal, which is a combination of the number of items you have for sale, the overall value of your store, if you have any retail signs or neon signs to attract customers, or if you've purchased advertising.

What markup prices do is determine how difficult it is to get customers to actually buy something. At 5% markup, customers will arrive with high purchase intent and you may not even need to interact with them for them to decide to buy. At 100% markup, customers purchase intent bar is nearly empty when they arrive, and you'll need to spend time giving them personal salesman attention to convince them that they should purchase. Is it worth your time giving individualized attention to each customer to get them to pay more, or would you rather have rapid customer turnaround times in your store? That's part of the fun :)

Yes, thank you so much for this information @SimGuruGraham because I just created a bakery that I uploaded to the gallery and later discovered that it didn't work for them or me. Does your sim have to bake everything first to set for sale to get the store started? I also want to open a book store and supermarket. Is that possible? Thank you nbSimmer

Bumping in case anyone missed this important info from Graham.

This method did not work for me. It never has. I cannot get my stores to be run by NPCs and it is frustrating. Someone please help me.

Before you set the store to be run by NPCs, you need to have a played Sim run the store and set items for sale. After that you can sell the store or delete the played Sim or mark the played Sim to be unplayed.

solved i had the same problem, you need to click on each item you want to sell and mark for sale

Is it possible to change the prices of an npc store? I am trying to make a grocery store, but things seem to be being charged for about 5 times the price, which isn't even possible.
