Are you saying that Sims you have created birthdays for have aged up autonomously, or are you asking if they will. Because in the live stream it was said that a sim won't age up autonomously on a birthday set in the calendar, unless of course that birthday is on the actual day that the game ages them up if you have aging on. Otherwise you should have to do it with a cake.
I am getting mixed information regarding this. People have assured me that calendar birthdays are just that. A yearly marker like @LaBlue0314 says but then on the other hand people are saying that Sims will age up. I personally don't mind with the households I am playing at each time because I can just age them down back. Annoyance but not game breaking for me.
I didn't mean to cause panick, I just started to panick myself this morning when I was playing the Goth and trying to decide when I should age up Alexander. I started to think about his two friends and having to make sure to age them up at the equal time and so on and all the sudden the thought just latched onto me and I started wondering, if my household I play starts to age up the Sims on their calendar day what about the other households that also have calendar birthdays and I just visualized me having a world filled with elders before I knew.
In a hindsight. I reallise I should maybe have voiced my post as a question :hushed:

The households you're playing do not age on their own, unless you've set it so. While holidays are worldwide, all other events (including birthdays) only happen if you're playing the said household.
