- EgonVMSeasoned AceYup, home is for all your service and bill needs! And placing an add for a roommate fits under there well!
But what's weird is that it's also for self-care needs, like booking a celebrity cleanse and getting lifestyle coaching. - yeah its weird i think it should be under shopping bag and buying groceries should be and i keep clicking that when i know fully well it isn't there
- It's funny to think back to (the original, year 2000) the Sims - where we had to use a wall or desk phone object for that sort of thing. It's quite amazing that mobile / cell phones have almost completely replaced the ol' landline phones.

You can actually use the sims throughout the years to chart how mobile phones have entered our lives and changed.
The Sim: Landlines only, no mobiles
TS2: Had mobiles but only as part of a pack, very limited use
TS3: Had both landlines and smartphones
TS4: Smartphones only, no landlines.- EgonVMSeasoned Ace

Well, The Sims 3 here is a special case.
Otherwise the game itself has the classic buttoned mobile phones, but when you have University Life installed, it gets upgraded to the smart phone. In fact, if you have a toddler age up there, for some time you'll see the classic mobile phone before the aging animation ends, after which you see that beloved smartphone.
And in The Sims 2, children couldn't use mobile phones. Yes, you can give it to them (if you have NightLife or some other DLC past that) and yes, you will see the ring in their pocket when someone calls them, but they need to use a landline instead.
So, in The Sims 3, landline is entirely optional. I keep forgetting about those after all!
The Sims 4 has no landlines. Well, the front desks in hospitals, police stations, and science labs do have those and sims there take the calls. The host station also has one... But mostly, everyone has mobile phones.
But anyway..."Simmingal;c-18179824" wrote:

Agreed agreed totally agreed! It is shopping except a sim is there physically delivering it. You can buy apples when shopping for gifts after all! - GalacticGalSeasoned AceI have a cellphone, because it's a must. My kids all have cellphones, which my daughter took with her when she had to see her ob/gyn, leaving me without a phone to call for help, should the need arise. I was babysitting the rest of her children! I started carrying my cellphone around, after that. Hate the dern thing, too, HATE it. I do have a land-line, too, so there. LOL Yes, it's cordless. But I do regret we don't have the old-fashioned phone options anymore. I built a rendition of Jessica Fletcher's house from "Murder, She Wrote" and have nothing to put on the counter where her phone was. :open_mouth:
- I might spend abnormal amounts of time browsing things on my smart phone (like this forum right now)
but even I miss old phones sometimesSpoiler
when I was kid some people still only had landlines and some even had those cool antique phones you'd have to roll the numbers on i remember having to use them sometimes to call my parents that I'm staying at someones house after school
I got my first mobile phone (nokia) when I was 7 but it didn't have sim card then just snake game n stuff
tbh i think that was the best like if you went out no one was gonna reach ya true freedom man just playing snake at some playground like true rebel i was and battery lasted for thousand years
think I was able to use it for calls and texting when I was like 11?
I just remember there was like call sunday when i could call as much as I wanted for 1 euro so i would call all my friends and waste their time
(funny to think cause these days i literally would not call anyone except mom voluntarily even if there was zombie apocalypse outside)
there was also limits to how many texts you could send and it felt so special when people would use their last texts for month to text you something  also meant lots of weird cut texts cause people ran out of letters in the middle
i didn't really have smartphone in my teen years or well i did have touch screen but it was one of those early nokia ones that were really not made to be smart phones and I only used social media and chat things on desktop
i shall thank universe for that because I don't even want to know what i would have been posting
anyway yeah I just miss the simpler times sometimes
it was nice when people would actually talk to each other not to walls and to text someone you didn't need million different apps (which people never use same one i swear and im just so tired of them)
i also just miss being not available to anyone with valid excuse of "no phone available" but i guess i can relive that when my battery runs out every 2 hours
in fact i believe ive returned to landlines because my "smart"phone will simply run out of battery the second i take it off charger
anyway yeah i wish my sims had landline phones because i live for the nostalgia
but also because it would be so nice if we could turn the mobilephones nonsense off for our sims
to have peace from all the calls and whatever sometimes too
and i feel like landline phones would enable them to do the needed calls like firepals or ordering something or whatever - crocobauraSeasoned Ace

Well, landlines haven't disappeared, it's just that people don't need to use them anymore since everyone has mobile phones nowadays which are more convenient. They are not really needed for households, just for businesses. You can always switch off your mobile if you don't want to be disturbed. "crocobaura;c-18180277" wrote:

i mean yeah i can but my sims can't is kinda what i was getting at
just trying to explain my views on phones irl which kind of explain my views on phones in sims and my dislike of the smartphone obsession in ts4 i guess but it turned out to be long confusing monologue for some odd reason
like
ts1 - fine i wasn't big fan of phones they were useful tho and at least i could delete when they got annoying
ts2 - i actually found mobile phones cool in ts2 but that was probably because i was in that playing snake/getting my first phone lifestage and it was again something your sims did not have by default therefore opt in
ts3- phones started to get tad irritating tbh but also might have been because real phones started getting annoying
ts4 - very irritating gives me high blood pressure why can't i just get rid of it why do all sims have to be phone addicts
