This is so true. For people who don't like getting into all that, toddlers can practically raise themselves.
If you have their bedroom on the ground floor, there is almost nothing you need to do for them. They can feed themselves (the hand of 'god' can drag them a dish out of the fridge), they can potty train themselves after the first couple of goes, entertain themselves if you leave toys out, and take themselves to bed. What's so difficult? And it doesn't even take long for them to be able to go up and down stairs on their own either.
I like to make my sims look after them because it makes it more of a challenge, but that's just me.
