I completely understand not wanting to risk all that effort!
When I'm not sure, I'll do a "save as" on my game. That way if something goes wrong, there is still an untouched original version of the same for after any bugs are worked out, and there is a version to experiment on. Any extra saves can always be deleted later. Think of it as the same world, but a different dimension? Hopefully that could be helpful!
I already do Save As, with each and every gaming session. I have learned that sometimes stuff just goes awry, even when playing in a watchful mode. With Save As, I can do a game recovery when I need to rectify something that totally went wrong. That is most certainly a possibility. I see a ray of sunshine through those dark, ominous clouds overhead. Thank you.
ETA: I'll give you a for instance. I was using a sweet little mod that allowed for me to have three-week seasons. Turns out that was causing all kinds of havoc with the Starlight Accolades Show. Sometimes my Sim would get there to see if his nomination would bear fruit, only for me to witness Thorne Bailey, and the mixologist and bouncers plus others filing out of the PBP Studios. I would send my Sim in, anyway. He would wait and wait, and wait some more and no Host would ever show up. Even if the popup declared the it was time for the Accolades show. This happened several times before I found out what was the cause. I even looked it up on the Internet. Best I could find was he moved (from his parents house in Del Sol Valley to Britechester-U.) But, the real culprit, as it turned out was this little mod I loved. I removed it on the advice of others, and that rectified the situation.
Having that Save As to roll back to helped my game move forward. Erik ended up winning 20 Best Songs in a row. And he still had two more songs written.
In the current save, he already has five with yet another nomination pending. I had to grind to get him to write all of those songs, too. So not looking forward to doing that again, that much is certain.
