This has happened to me before - however, the event timer stayed and I had to cancel the event, go home with the pet, and reload the vet clinic. You could try that or buy a wellness treat from the vending machine at the clinic. OR treat him yourself at home with the examination table on your home lot. I've never actually tried treating a pet at home, but it might be viable. I've used a wellness treat on a sick pet when the vet was bugged, and the treat cured him, but gave him a perpetual uncomfortable mood. Switching to another household for a few days managed to clear it up.
I'm assuming you aren't getting a popup from the vet following the examination saying what sickness the dog has and which treatment you want?
