Played Sims Dying During Rotational Play

I thought they said during the livestream that played sims with story progression turned off wouldn't die when you're playing a different house (or rarely) but it's now happened in 2 of my 7 households. 

It hasn't ruined my entire game plan but it did throw me a bit.  One of the sims will work just as well as a ghost and I have evicted the other and removed his played tag so he can roam the world as he pleases, because although I was planning to play him throughout his life, I never intended to play him as a ghost.

I use MCCC so I don't know whether that could be a factor.

    What about those of us who don't have L&D? I just had a sim die on me when I walked away for a bathroom break and the only need he showed he was down on was hygiene. I backed out and didn't save it, because I have never had one just die out of the blue like that. Yes I have mods in my game, but they haven't interfered with any game play yet. I have LS turned off, as I once had an NPC die on the way to visit a Sim after they called and said they were on their way. But not knowing where he died, I could never find his urn, even with the game sending my sim messages about his spirit. 

    Anyway, had anyone else encountered this? I am considering playing another household and see if it happens there. Never had one die just because the hygiene got low. And it was fast too, I was barely gone 3 minutes.
