I read someplace that it has something to do with the relationship that the sim dying and the sim pleading have/had. Like a spouse with a full relationship bar would have a better chance than a distant friend. That could be wrong but it seems to hold some truth in my saves. I once had an estranged daughter plead for her father and it failed, but in the next generation the daughter plead for her mother with a full bar and it succeeded. Of course, it only gave her about 6 hours (I think. It felt like about 6 hours but could have been a day) before she was dead again, but still..
