Yeah, I've made so many threads complaining about whims at this point, lol.
here's one I made recently about the pet whims specifically.
An here's an old thread I made wishing for whims that were less stupid.
And here's a challenge I started where I try and follow every single whim and do nothing else and see how ridiculous it gets. I've been neglecting that save, got distracted by a different one, but so far my sim has 5 chess tables and no stove.
Basically: yes. seconded. please god fix the whims. I'm tired of seeing dumb stuff like "buy a pet bed." Give me life whims, like adopt a baby, move in with X, move out the house for when teens age up, or buy a store. Give me whims about relationships that don't require the other sim to be right in front of them, like call X, or invite X over, or ask X on a date. Get rid of AAAAAALLLLLLLL the generic whims-- I don't think there should be any whims that come up for every sim, regardless of traits and aspirations. "Buy a pool" should be something that maybe happens for active sims or sims that love the outdoors. Xing out of whims should make them disappear for at least a day.
Like...I enjoy whims some of the time. I like seeing who they might want to flirt with, or letting my sim decide when/if to try for baby. But you just have to slog through SO MUCH BS to get to the real story making stuff. Like...honestly?
Just get rid of the buy stuff whims. All of them. every single one. Make the whims purely be "go swimming" or "play chess", and then the player can decide whether to be the necessary object, or travel to a lot that has it already. Make the whims be based more on the sims personality and aspiration, and less on what happens to be in front of them at the time. Cause, yeah, right now, it all feels pretty shallow.
