Point of preorder?

What's the point of pre ordering a game? I always buy from origin and I never have issues with it. I don't want problems with pets though, could they run out of digital copies?
  • There’s nothing inherently wrong with offering a pre-order, even with no bonus attatched it still provides valuable data for EA to analyze early on.

Most retailers do not charge you until the product is released. Some may have different policies, but in general most digital pre-orders won’t be processed until the pack officially releases. Boxed versions will be processed a little earlier because they have to be shipped to the location, but even then it’s hit or miss depending on when the retailer sent the product out for delivery.

Hell will freeze over before I ever pre-order again. Would have been quicker to walk to my local retail store, buy the EP on disk, grab something to eat at the food court and walk home.

Last time I did it was for Sims 3 base game, to get the special edition. I still don't see any reason to do it with Sims 4 - a couple of weeks of patience and one might even get a sale.

Very true, I don't think it will have a black friday sale 2 weeks after release.
  • I've been wondering what the point of preordering the digital version myself. I don't quite understand what the point is unless you get some kind of incentive for it. Physical copies are different as they can sell out but there is no real concern about the digital version selling out. I know some people prefer to preorder and that's cool, everyone has there preferences, but I don't quite see the point personally.

Cheyenne, do you mind me asking what country you're in? I'm in the US. I pre-ordered and am not able to play today. It says that I will tomorrow, so will it be at midnight?

I'm in Australia. :) It was the 9th yesterday for us, and all those who pre-ordered could play/download it at 9:00pm. Everyone else today who didn't pre-order will have to wait until 9:00pm as well to download and play the game. I didn't think they ever used to have certain times for the games, I don't remember that being there before. So if it says you can play it tomorrow it should also have the time of the release next to it too. If it doesn't have a time then maybe you'll be able to play it at midnight, but I'm not too sure.
  • also for price protection so if the price goes up you get it at what you preordered it for.
  • I got mine from Symths Toys was meant to be a disk copy but it wasn't.

So I am really upset that I paid more and waited longer.

A whole ton of people with pre-order are now the ones having the most problems, not being able to download, not being able to play full-stop... This is why I do not at this moment have Cats&Dogs.
  • Every time I've pre-ordered for the last year, they didn't charge my card until it is officially available anyway, so there really is no point. You aren't even actually pre-ordering.
