Potty training...

Hello Simmers! As some know I recently get parenthood EP and some others....I have question. Whenever I potty train a toddler, why they don't instantly use the pot? When they have to go badly (red meter) I put them on the pot and all they do is fart and push...but the red meter never goes up...I have to end up making them go in diaper...
  • Have you tried waiting? Sometimes it takes awhile for the toddler to actually be able to 'go' and to just let the toddler stay on the potty until they're truly finished; you'll know when they're done when they get up on their own. Or it could be a bug and I can't really help you there. Toddlers are part of the basegame and I don't see how Parenthood would be involved in potty training. Perhaps move out your mods if you have any and repair your game just in case.

The bar doesn't move immediately - it takes a while. Just leave them on the potty and let them do their thing...
Also, maybe you should catch them before they go red. If I remember correctly, being in too bad of a mood will negate the process.
  • It always takes a bit of time, whether they're red or not. I think it takes a bit more time when you're first training them, too, which is logical. Real-life toddlers can sit there forever because they don't know what they're supposed to do at first.
  • You have to let them go through the “training” part of the potty training (either by someone else or on their own) before the can be coaxed into using it. You can see the training process in the queue of the adult that’s training them or their own if there’s no adult. As far as I know it doesn’t matter if they go into the red once they're on the potty and have started the animation for it.

If nice they reach Level 3 I believe they’ll go right away. I haven’t really paid attention to it I guess lol.
  • Also, if you use the Independent trait on your toddler they don't rely on your sim that much for their skills and I think that trait or another trait allows them to earn their skills faster! It makes potty a breeze!
  • It seems to get faster as they go up in their potty skill. And, once past level 1, they can use it without an adult.
  • Hmm ok I'll look again later when I'm back in game. Thanks for the feedback.
  • Toddlers are often very slow on the potty, at least the first times. They sit there like for ages, and I assume nothing happens until they suddenly fix it :) So, just give them time.
  • Yes I finally got my toddler to use the pot successfully! What happen is he wasn't fully potty train and I thought he was! My mistake!

They potty train quicker with a sim teaching them, but if you don't want to wait for them to be done, you can also send the adult sim off to do something else once the toddler sits down and cancel out the potty training task in the adult's queue. The toddler will finish up on their own. The toddler will improve their potty training skill a little slower without someone teaching them, but it is at least a way to have your adult sim off doing something else at the same time if they are needed elsewhere.
