Potty Training Dogs in Apartments

How do dogs that live in apartments go to the bathroom? The family I'm playing has a dog and every time I ask her to go to the bathroom while she's in the apartment, she gets the thought bubble that means there's something in the way and she just continues to stand by the door. Are dogs not able to go downstairs by themselves? Is this something that will stop once she's housebroken (if she ever is)?

In real life, if you owned a dog in an apartment building, it would be your responsibility to put your dog on a leash and take it downstairs and outside to potty. Not just point to the elevator. IMO, dogs should not live in apartments. If you are unwilling to be a proper owner, then your dog will suffer. Cats, however, would work in an apartment due to the fact that cats use litter boxes.

True. As a training aid for having a dog in real life Sims 4 is not having much success. Training a dog is very hard work and apparently they need their sniffs on their walks for their mental health!

I'm happy to learn that use for the newspaper rug as it passed me by! I'll put one on every balcony, if there is one.

I find Sims having a dog is a good way of travelling around the neighbourhood without screens when I follow them around on a long walk. It's a way of finding plants and treasures on the way.

One of my spell casters has a cat, and I caught the cat fighting with something in the bush, I guess it must have been a bird because there was a feather left.... lol.
  • Had a cute puppy, but not so cute litter... Kept setting potty pads, but it wouldn't use this. My sim worked long shifts, so walks weren't the best solution for him. Commenting on this to read solutions. Unfortunately had to give puppy to his mom.
