You could try using the “ set on head” cheat to put a bin on the head of your sim, then place the bin onto the ground in the public place. If you decide to do it though, save before doing it so that if you have issues you can just exit the game without saving.
Enable testingcheats true, then shift click on a bin and click to “set as head”. Then when at the public place, shift click the item again and click “ reset”.

If you have MCCC mod you can use the “ delete object” option to remove the items.

I never thought of that. It's a good idea. Thanks. I'll give that a shot. I just hope my Sim doesn't spin in circles trying to interact with her own head. Haha! I do wonder how many people realize that once activated, unless deactivated by the player, testing cheats remain active. I haven't had to reactivate them since I started my file. Shift+Click is always enabled with no need to reactivate testing cheats every session.

Oops. Overlooked the bit about dropping it on the ground... Might work. Might not. The debugging part can get a bit wonky depending on the object. Still, if I can't set it down, I can still try wearing it. I don't have MCCC and I'm mod-heavy enough with Wicked Whims, Book of Chaos and a few others. If the binhead idea doesn't work, though, I might consider it.

It only half worked. They couldn't throw the cups away properly, but in trying, the cups turned into trash, which eventually disappeared on their own. Weird, but moderately effective.

It is good that the cups/trash have disappeared now.
