now that i remember, we can influence the baby's gender by making your sims eat strawberries and listen to pop for a girl, or eat carrots and listen to alternative for a guy (or something like that) which means even more that the baby genetics keeps changing on the course of gameplay

It's possible since occult state is part of a genetic system I believe any changes to either parents during the pregnancy will contribute to the newborn look, but I havent got time to try it though considering I have been struggling to keep myself occupied to the game.
