Quick question about horses

Are horses supposed to sleep in their assigned beds? They just seem to fall asleep anywhere they want and I was thinking 'do I really need all these horse beds'? I could use the space for other thing...

    By chance do they have free spirited trait? Mine like to sleep anywhere but their bed too

Just checked, and yes, all 3 have the free spirit trait. They have never slept in their bed. I think I will get rid of all but one bed.
