I haven't used anything yet because I'm new to 4, but given my track record with the previous 3 games... it's a matter of time.
There's nothing wrong with playing the game vanilla but I find that for me to actualise what I have in mind for my sims and games, the included content can be limiting. I've noticed that 4 is pretty slim on content, even with expansions and packs, there's only so much I can do with a limited choice before everything I create ends up looking the same.
I've personally had more issues with my games over the years with bugs that have shipped with the game than I ever have with any cc/mods.
