Familiars can fight off Death (whatever that means)
Familiars can help your magic work better.
Familiars make you use less Energy
They live in sparkly pokeballs when not in use.
Only one can be summoned at one time.
Cats and Dogs can be 'deputized' as a Familiar and get sparkles.
They can also fetch potion reagents.

will cats and dogs float above us or will it be something like sims 2? I think the point of death is to avoid some curses and the magic overload that you realize can kill.

No they won't fly, only the familiers that come with this pack do that :)
