As far as reusing, it doesn't bother me.
I think the machine won't be the only way to change the pollution levels. If I recall correctly, it was said somewhere that if your Sims don't live an eco lifestyle, the pollution levels might increase and nature around the world will slowly recede. It will probably also work that way the other way around with cleaning.
The trailer was only short, not enough time to show any progress either way. We'll know more for sure after the deep dive live stream and the gameplay trailer we're also hopefully gonna get soon.
agreed, I don't think that machine will be the only way to get rid of pollution.
