I've only played with a roommate once. My sim girl received this roommate girl. At first she started serenading my sim all the time. My sim was dating Vlad atm, so she didn't care. When she finally moved in to Vlad's house, she dismissed the roommate. Later my sim found her at a bar and... without disguise... she was an alien. What a treat ?
