Rarely in 4, honestly, but it definitely happens! In 3 I would skill grind so much I could hardly be bothered to keep up with a fair bit. Seasons would pass while I leveled up and I would namely only be affected if I ended up reading in the park. After I was done, it would be fine, though. 2 was similar except the needs were more cutthroat. In 1, I couldn't really skill grind like I prefer, but I didn't give up like I did on friendship.
In 4, I find it much easier to not get distracted for better or worse, but I definitely have moments with curfews (at least they aren't as bad as 3's) and club meet ups (always trying to get to the next perk). More so when traveling is involved and I have specific tasks I want to accomplish. Dining at a restaurant takes an incredible time commitment, for example, and so does running one (or retail or a vet clinic). If I am just at home it tends to run fairly smoothly at least, which is the only reason I can get large households through uni in the dorm. They cannot travel in that situation, though.
Fun fact, I have known IRL people that do not believe in bed time. Seriously. Their children have never known a proper bed time. The parents don't sleep well anyway so sleep isn't super valued, but it is always odd to think of a toddler allowed to decide when to sleep and when to not. I genuinely don't understand how they function without an hour or two of guaranteed productivity while the baby is in bed. Just goes to show how different the lifestyles and values of even your regular neighbors can be.
