Setting up my first sim business: advice please

I'm soon to set up my first business in the sims, running a bakery, and I've absolutely no idea how to go about it. This is the first time I've run a business in any sims game.

Can anybody please recommend to me any useful articles about running a business?

Also as it's a bakery I want to know which foods cake be sold. I'm guessing those from cooking, gourmet cooking and baking skills are all good, but as most bakeries also sell sandwiches, does anyone know if the lunch sandwiches from parenthood can be sold if your sim runs a bakery?

  • I tried a bakery once but I couldn't make it work like I envisioned (a faster more informal restaurant), so it now exclusively sells wedding cakes and posh pastries for events, no tasting on site.
My sims still run it and they have the Fresh Chef reward trait so its real usefulness is when another playable family has a party to plan: no more forgetting about the wedding cake, they just pop by to buy it beforehand and it doesn't spoil.

As for my bakery wish, a mod adding more food to espresso bars makes-do for my gameplay, even if I don't run the cafés. (I really hope Seasons hot chocolate is added to the espresso bar though).

Still salty that Dine Out didn't have less formal restaurant gameplay for burger joints, pizzerias, ice cream shops ...
Food stands scratch the itch, but only barely.

Good luck for your first retail ! I'm sure if you're not as obsessed with efficiency as I am, you'll only have tons of fun.

Thank you both of you :) , the cake idea is a really good one! and with the onset of seasons I'm going to have them sell things like spooky cookies or whatever they're called in the run up to Hallowe'en, and great to hear about the sandwiches!! I just wish there were more than 3 sandwich fillings available.

Theres also the toddler quick meal sandwiches, Monte Cristo sandwich, Grilled Cheese, (Faux) BLT etc.

I wonder what exactly the filling is in a Monte Cristo sandwich.

Apparently it's a fried ham and cheese sandwich with eggy bread.

    Interesting.

I wouldn’t make the bakery all too big, the bigger the business the more your customers spend just wondering around and not actually buying anything.

Thankfully it's quite small. Here it is:

  • Rindle Rose Bakery is very nice! :) The lavender flower box windows look pretty! The hanging baskets Street lamp is a nice touch in the front area of the bakery lot. It is great that there is a back outdoors dining patio. Sims will enjoy sitting at the umbrella covered tables eating baked goods that they have bought at the bakery, in the outdoors air. Very nice layout and furnishing of the interior of the store! It looks nice how the interior dining tables and chairs are set up there, and the glass display cabinets and fridge nook looks great. The pink curtains look pretty in the bakery. Your sim would enjoy using the cupcake machine in the kitchen to cook items to sell. Sims will enjoy enjoy sitting resting on the pink sofa having a chat.
It is a very nice bakery! :)
  • Ohhhh...I really need this for my game, BabySquare. Is it available for download? It's adorable!

I followed your link and have it in my game. Thanks for sharing it. It's perfect for a small lot I have in Newcrest. <3

Thank you so much rosemow! :) I put a lot of work into it, and it's so lovely to have my efforts admired! :)

Thank you :) and yes it's available. The gallery link should still work, either that or just search EA ID babysquare in the in-game gallery. :)
