Hecate wants nothing more than a world completely ruled by Vampires. Humans are nothing but meat to Hecate, meat that should be kept in pens waiting to be consumed. She has a plan for an absolute vampire supremacy, but there was one major obstacle that had to be overcome.
Vlad.
Vlad was behind a growing movement of vampires that did not feast on humans. The idea was asinine in Hecate's eyes. A Grand Master Vampire telling his kin not to feast on humans as if they were equals? It was a sacrilege. It went against the "natural order". Humans were as much prey to vampires as a zebra was to a lion. Hecate believed Vlad was growing soft when he fell in love with a mortal woman over a century ago and things would only go downhill from there. Vlad's radical ideas were dangerous. He had to be destroyed for the sake of her kind.
According to tradition, in order to earn the title of Grand Master Vampire one simply needed to challenge the owner of the title...
